WELCOME TO KIM "MiGKY" WONG MiG-21 COLLECTION
This blog tracks the journey I started in 1999, on a "crazy" personal attempt to have the world's largest A-Z collection of 1/32 MiG-21 model for my private gallery. It records
my collection and work progress, but also kind of self motivational boost to see a bigger picture of everything in place here. Love to take you along on this supersonic journey on turning my childhood's dream into a reality. If you are new to MiG-21 or a fanatic, I hope you will find this blog very inspiring, exciting and resourceful. Thank you for visiting my blog and referring it to other MiG-21 fans.

MY MiG-21 & THE PRESS

My love affair with the MiG-21s has been widely covered in the local press in Malaysia. Once a while it is fun to get a bit of free press publicity to keep my dream on check. On 4th Dec, 2007, I held a press conference cum a mini exhibition of my collection at my apartment garden in Penang. The idea was to see if the press bought my inspiration and idea. That was to say if they could sell this story to the public. YES, THEY DID.
The next day, 6 Press published the story!
Guan Ming Press made it its headlines.
Kwong Hwa published a full page special feature story.
Oh man, I was made famous instantly in Penang as the "Aeroplane King".

KIT- IS THIS THE WORLD'S LARGEST "KIT" COLLECTION?

Here is my Revell 1/32 MiG-21 PF kits collection.
I am glad that finally I managed to put them together for a "family" post before I start building.
I started buying this particular kit worldwide since 2005.
My target was 25 kits then.
By 2010, I have 31 kits and decided to put a break on acquiring any more of this kit!
Ha ha....with such a large number kits in one hand, I wonder is this the world's largest collection of this particular kit.. Look, there is nobody so crazy to collect so many of the same kit. Well, the truth is I have great plan for this particular earlier MiG-21 PF variant.
They tell great stories, man. They were the main fighter jet during the Vietnam War, India & Pakistan War and Middle East War.

KIT - TRUMPETER - 1/32 CHINESE F-7MG

MIG-21  CHINESE F-7MG
KIT NO: 02220

The F-7MG is the latest version of the F-7 series with double triangular wings (inner wings at 57 degrees and outer wings at 42 degrees), movable front and additional sets of wing arm carriers which make the loading and unloading of weapons easier.

KIT - TRUMPETER - 1/32 CHINESE F-7B

MIG-21  CHINESE F-7B
KIT NO: 02217

This fighter is a more advanced version of F-7 II with more new features enabling the jet to serve as day & night fighter. New triangular wings were adopted with adjustable flaps that allow the jet to have better functions when changing from subsonic to supersonic speeds. New sophisticated electronic equipment and additional new missiles were installed . The PLA Air Force aerobatic team uses this F-7EB model as performance aircraft at air shows.

KIT - TRUMPETER - 1/32 CHINESE F-7 II

MIG-21 - CHINESE F-7 II
KIT NO: 02216

F-7II is an aircraft developed from the F-7I. The maiden flight was on December 30,1978. Primary modifications included: self-designed ejection seats and equipment instead of those formerly designed by Russia, a backward opening canopy with fixed front windproof windows, and a modified Pen-7engine which solved the problem of height temperature in the rear fuselage. The landing parachute is located at the end of vertical tail with enlarged fuel tanks.

KIT - TRUMPETER - 1/32 MIG-21 F-13

MIG-21F-13
KIT NO: 02210

The MiG-21 F-13 was very similar to former version. It had a broader and lower fin and a different cockpit canopy. The armament also changed. The port NR-30cannon was removed (only aerody-namical fairing was located there) and the aircraft carried two under wing pylons with K-13 launch rails. The K-13 IR missile was identical to first AIM-9 Sidewinders captured in the Korean War. Both versions are representants of the MiG-21 first generation fighters. They were purely classical day-light fighters used only under the good weather conditions and visual target contact. The changes in the fighter combat conception, new air-to-air guided missiles and the results fromfirst generation fighter operations gave rise to the second generationMiG-21s.

KIT - TRUMPETER - 1/32 MIG-21UM

MIG-21UM MONGOL B
KIT NO: 02219

The MiG-21UM was the final two –seater version developed from the E-6 UM prototype. It was practically a “US” airframe with improved instruments and avionics up to the “M”and “MF” standards. The new ejection seats were installed, the KM-1Ufor the front cockpit and KM-1I for the rear cockpit. The distinguish mark is the UHF aerial on the dorsal spine in front of the fin, the attitude sensor on the front nose section and forward –view instructor’s periscope installed on the rear canopy frame. This foldable periscope was added because of instructor’s requirements to look straight forward during take-off and control the aircraft when it is necessary.
